Hold general election immediately: Tarique

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for holding national elections at the earliest, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina.

Speaking at a political rally in front of the party’s central office at Naya Paltan, Tarique said, "The first step of the revolution, marked by the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs, has been achieved with Sheikh Hasina's ouster."

He emphasised that the ultimate goal of this revolution, led by students, is to create a democratic Bangladesh free of discrimination.

"To realise the aims of this movement, national polls must be conducted as soon as possible," he urged, joining the rally virtually from London.

Tarique also stressed the need for a swift transfer of power to elected representatives to ensure the continuation of democracy.
