Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday left the country amid the ongoing student movement demanding the resignation of her government on Monday. Her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, accompanied her when she departed.
“Sheikh Hasina wanted to record a speech, but she could not get an opportunity to do that,” the source close to Hasina told AFP.
However, cheering protesters stormed Prime Minister’s official Ganabhaban residence after she fled, reports the news agency.
Jubilant looking crowds waved flags, some dancing on top of a tank in the streets of Dhaka on Monday morning, before hundreds broke through the gates of Hasina's official residence.
