'March to Dhaka' today

The anti-discrimination student movement, which emerged from the quota reform movement, has announced a Long March to Dhaka today, Monday (August 5), to bolster the ongoing non-cooperation movement demanding the resignation of the government.

Originally, the student movement had planned a two-day programme, with a women's and workers' rally on Monday (August 5) and the Long March to Dhaka on Tuesday (August 6). However, the schedule was revised, and the Long March will now take place today instead of Tuesday.

Asif Mahmud, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced the updated programme in a circular sent to the media on Sunday (August 4) afternoon.

The previous announcement outlined plans to unveil memorial plaques at martyrdom sites across the country on Monday, in memory of those who lost their lives. Additionally, a labor rally was scheduled at Shahbagh at 11:00am, followed by a women's rally at 5:00pm. Students were also expected to hold demonstrations and public sit-ins nationwide.

The revised programme calls on students, citizens, workers, and professionals from across the country to join the march to Dhaka. A mass rally is scheduled at Shahbagh at 2:00pm. on the same day.

The movement's leaders have also urged the formation of student-led struggle committees in neighborhoods, villages, upazilas, and districts. They have called on students and ordinary citizens to sustain the movement until the government resigns, even if faced with internet shutdowns or crackdowns on ongoing protests.
