13 cops killed at Enayetpur, 1 in Cumilla

At least 13 police personnel of the Enayetpur Police Station in Sirajganj were killed as the police station came under attack on Sunday.

Police Headquarters’ media and public relations department Superintendent of Police Enamul Haque Sagar informed this on Sunday (August 4) evening.

He added that one other member of Eliotganj Highway Police in Cumilla was killed in violence. 

Enamul said at least 300 police personnel also sustained injuries.

Sirajganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Mohammad Hannan Mia, told reporters that a large mob initially gathered at the police station, stayed for a while, and then left. Later, several hundred people suddenly returned, attacked the police station, and set it on fire.

"So far, the bodies of 13 policemen have been recovered, all bearing signs of injuries," he said.

According to the police headquarters, Jatrabari and Khilgaon police stations of DMP; Tangail Gorai Highway Police Station; Sadar, Dupchanchia and Sherpur Police Stations and Naruli Police Outposts in Bogura; Joypurhat Sadar Police Station; Comilla's Elliotganj Highway Police Station; Gangachra, Mithapukur, Pirgachha, Pirganj, and Badarganj in Rangpur; Brahmanbaria Sadar and Ashuganj police stations in Brahmanbaria; Enayetpur, Ullapara and Shahjadpur police stations of Sirajganj; Madhabpur outpost of Habiganj; Mymensingh Range Office; Narayanganj, Bogura, Pabna and Sirajganj Superintendent of Police offices; Dinajpur Sadar police station came under attack on Sunday that left more than 300 policemen injured.
