Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said the announcement of banning Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, will be made anytime.
He said this while talking to the reporters at the Secretariat this evening.
Kamal said the pro-liberation parties and the civil society of the country have long been demanding to ban the party, which is also people’s demand.
The Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Monday (July 29) held a meeting where the Prime Minister sought opinions from many leaders and all of them suggested banning Jamaat, and Shibir, the home minister stated.
“The International Crimes Tribunal also opined in the decisions of one or two cases that the party should be banned as a militant group,” Kamal said.
“So, it has been decided to ban this party. The process is underway. It will be announced anytime after the process is finished,” Asaduzzaman said.
