Clashes erupt between students, police in Khulna

Students clashed with police in Khulna on Wednesday as they blocked various roads in the city, during their March for Justice programme seeking the implementation of a 9-point demand under the anti-discrimination student movement. The clashes reportedly led to several arrests.

The protest began around noon, with students gathering at key locations in the city, including Shib Bari, Royal Mor, Satrasta Mor, and Moylapota Mor, where they chanted slogans demanding justice.

The first clash occurred in the Moylapota area, where police reportedly arrested several protesters. As the students moved towards Royal Mor, police surrounded them, escalating tensions.

Around 2:30pm., clashes resumed near Satrasta Mor, where police used tear gas to disperse the students. Authorities then took control of several areas, including Shantidham Mor, Royal Mor, Satrasta Mor, and the Full Market area.

Khulna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain commented on the situation, saying, "We had announced yesterday that no student protests would be allowed. They took the law into their own hands and attacked us. The police have now brought the situation under control."
