Renowned singer and television programme host Hassan Abidur Reja Jewel has passed away.
He breathed his last around 11:53am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.
His brother Mohibur Reja Rubel confirmed the death.
He said the namaz-e-janaza of his brother will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers today.
The singer was admitted to the hospital at night on July 23 after he complained of respiratory problems. The doctors later shifted him to intensive care unit where he died today.
In 1986, Jewel moved to Dhaka and immersed himself in the literary and cultural activities centred around TSC of Dhaka University.
His first album, “Kuasha Prohor”, was released in 1992 and became a major hit.
Among his notable albums are “Amar Ache Ondhokar”, “Ekta Manush”, “Dekha Hobe Na”, “Beshi Kichu Noy”, “Bedona Shudhu Bedona”, “Phirti Pothe”, “Dorja Khola Bari”, and “Emon Keno Holo”.
