The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (Nicar) on Monday endorsed Mymensingh as a new division, raising the total number of administrative divisions of the country to eight.Nicar gave the approval in its meeting held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hussain Bhuyian said Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrakona districts will be under the new division keeping Tangail and Kishoreganj districts outside of it.The Cabinet on January 26 took the decision in principle over the new division which encompasses a total of 10,585 square kilometres with a population of 113,69,606.Nicar also decided to create Bhandaria in Pirojpur district as a new municipality, expand the area of Homna municipality in Comilla district and set up a new police station dividing Muradnagar Police Station, also in Comilla district.The new police station, encompassing 189 square kilometers with a population 240,775 in 10 unions, will be known as Bangura Bazar Police Station.
