The detectives have taken three coordinators of the protesters seeking quota reform– Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Baker Majumder – into custody for, what they said, ensuring their security.
Additional Commissioner and DB chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid made the announcement at a press conference at the DB office in Dhaka on Saturday.
He said the leaders of the protesters were taken into custody on Friday night after they expressed concerns about their safety on social media.
“If anyone feels insecure, it is our duty as law enforcer to provide safety and security,” Rashid said. “We are doing just that.”
The DB chief also revealed that Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur and other leaders had admitted to communicating with the protest coordinators during interrogation.
Police will question them to determine the nature of their discussions.
