Five electrocuted in Bogura Ratha Yatra

Five people died from electrocution during a Ratha Yatra in Bogura town on Sunday afternoon.

Among the deceased, four were identified as Shrimati Ranjita, 60, a resident of Gohail village in Shahjahanpur upazila, Naresh Mahanta, 60, of Kundu village in Adamdighi upazila, Atsi Rani, 40, of Tinmatha rail gate in Sadar upazila, and Alak Kumar, 42, of Kulupara village in Shibganj upazila.

Witnesses and police said a vehicle of Ratha Yatra, a major religious festival of the Hindu community, came in a contact with electric wire on the road in Seujgari area around 5:15 pm, leaving five people dead on the spot, and at least 30 others injured.

Confirming the matter, Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Saihan Oliullah said five people died on the spot in the incident of electrocution and many received injuries.

The injured were sent to a hospital, he said.
