DU students resume demo against job quota

Students at Dhaka University resumed their protest demanding the cancellation of the job quota system. The demonstration, part of the pre-announced program, took place under the banner of the 'Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.'

The procession began in front of the Central Library of Dhaka University at 3:30 pm on Saturday. It moved through various parts of the campus, including the TSC and residence halls, and marched through different city thoroughfares.

During the march, students chanted slogans such as ‘There is no place for discrimination in my golden Bengal."

Students from various universities demand the cancellation of the quota in class I and class II government jobs, reinstatement of the 2018 notification, and reform of the quota system in all types of jobs.

On Thursday at 12:30 pm, under the same banner, students laid siege to Shahbagh, braving the rain. After a six-hour standoff, they announced a new programme and withdrew from the intersection.

Earlier, on Wednesday at 4:15 pm, students from Dhaka University gathered at the Shahbagh intersection after a protest march from the campus. They blocked the intersection, continuing their demand for the abolition of the quota system.
