3 die after falling into septic tank in Rangpur

Three people, including a mother and her son, died after falling into a septic tank in Rangpur on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at Dhap Udaypur village under Shalti Gopalpur union in Mithapukur upazila of the district around 6am.

The deceased were identified as Iblul Miah, 35, son of Tobarak Hossain, Delowara Begum, 55, wife of Badsha Miah and their son Ida Miah, 35, of the village.   

Confirming the matter to Jago News, Local union parishad member Jahangir Alam said a septic tank was dug behind the house of Delowara Begum for cow excrement. Delowara was plucking bottle gourd leaves standing on a ladder next to the septic tank. The ladder was suddenly broken and Delwara fell into the septic tank. Ida Miah rushed to the spot to rescue his mother and he fell into it. Later, their neighbour Iblul Miah went to the spot to rescue them but he also fell into the septic tank.   

On Information, Mithapukur Fire Service members rushed to the spot and recovered three dead bodies from the septic tank. 

Mithapukur Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Moshiur Rahman said the septic tank is narrow and deep. Being informed, fire service members rushed to the spot and recovered three dead bodies around 7:30am. Later, the bodies were handed over to their families.

Gopalpur Union Parishad Chairman Harun Or Rashid confirmed the deaths of three people.
