Quader to hold meeting with university teachers on Thursday

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will hold a meeting on Thursday with the leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association who are protesting the new universal pension scheme ‘Prottoy’ recently issued by the Finance Ministry.

Professor Dr Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, Secretary General of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association and President of Dhaka University Teachers Association, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Wednesday.

He said Quader gave us time for a meeting this evening but he refixed it for Thursday morning.

“The movement will continue until our demands are not met,” he added.

However, the indefinite strike of teachers and employees of public universities is underway across the country for the third second consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding their exclusion from the “discriminatory” pension scheme.

The Universal Pension Scheme started its journey on August 17, 2023 with four schemes: Prabashi, Pragati, Suraksha, and Equality.

On March 13 this year, the government introduced the ‘Prottoy’ scheme for employees who join public universities and other organisations that fall under the scheme from 1 July 2024 onwards.
