General Waker-Uz-Zaman has taken over as the Chief of Bangladesh Army for three years.
The Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate confirmed the matter issuing a press release on Sunday.
He replaces General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed who went on retirement on completion of his tenure.
Earlier on June 11, the ISPR in a statement said Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman has been promoted to the rank of general and appointed as the army chief for three years from June 23.
An alumnus of Bangladesh Military Academy, Waker-Uz-Zaman was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry in December 1985. In a career spread over more than three and half decades, he is said to bring with him an enormous amount of experience of holding key command, staff and instructional appointments.
In his distinguished military career, he commanded an Infantry Battalion, an Independent Infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division.
