Three minor sisters of a family were killed in hornet biting in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday afternoon.
The mother of the children, Tanzila Begum, 32, was also injured in the hornet attack. She is now undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The deceased are 6-year-old Hadifa, 4-year Farzana Akter and 11-month Mim.
The father of the children, Islam Mia, said the children were playing in a bamboo grove near the house where there was a hornet nest as well. At one stage, the nest was broken down on the ground. The hornets then stung the children with their venomous stings. When their mother went to the spot hearing screaming of the children, hornets also stung her.
The injured were admitted to Thakurgaon General Hospital where Hadifa and Farzana died.
As health condition of the mother and her youngest daughter were deteriorated, they were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the youngest daughter, Mim, succumbed to her injuries.
