MP Anar murder: AL leader Pintu put on 8-day remand

A court in Dhaka has placed Saidul Karim Pintu, the general secretary of Jhenaidah district unit Awami League, on an eight-day remand in a case filed over the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar.

The court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order on Thursday after police had produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for fair investigation in the lawsuit.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police detained him from Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday and later, he was shown arrested in the case.

Earlier, a team of detectives from Dhaka detained Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu, the relief and social welfare secretary of Jhenaidah unit AL, from the district town.

On June 9, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan placed him on a seven-day remand.

On May 22, India's West Bengal police said Anwarul Azim Anar, a lawmaker from the Jhenaidah-4 constituency, was killed there. 

On the same day, his daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen lodged the case mentioned above with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, Dhaka in this connection.
