Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of General Staff (CGS), has been appointed as the new chief of staff of Bangladesh Army.
He has been promoted to the rank of general and appointed as the army chief for three years from June 23, according to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate on Tuesday.
He will replace current army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman assumed the duties of Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army on January 1, 2024.
An alumnus of Bangladesh Military Academy, he was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry in December 1985. In a career spread over more than three and half decades, Waker-Uz-Zaman is said to bring with him an enormous amount of experience of holding key command, staff and instructional appointments.
In his distinguished military career, he commanded an Infantry Battalion, an Independent Infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division.
