Constable Kawser on 7-day remand over colleague murder

A court in Dhaka on Sunday placed police constable Kawser Ali on a seven-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of his colleague Monirul Islam in Dhaka’s Baridhara diplomatic zone on Saturday night.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shakil Ahammed passed the order as police produced the constable before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand.

Kawser at around 11 pm on June 8 started random firing in front of the Palestine Embassy. His colleague Monirul received gunshots and died on the spot. A driver working for the Japanese Embassy was also injured in the firing.

The deceased’s brother Md Mahbubul Haque filed the case with Gulshan Police Station.
