Cop gunned down by colleague in Baridhara diplomatic zone

A police constable was killed as his colleague opened fire at him while performing duty in the capital’s Baridhara diplomatic zone on Saturday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Monirul Islam.

The incident took place in front of Palestinian Embassy around 12am.

Following the incident, police detained Constable Kawsar Ali in connection with the shooting and cordoned off the area.

“We are investigating the incident. If necessary, legal action will be taken,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said after visiting the spot at 2:30am on Sunday. 

The IGP said two of our constables were on duty in front of the Palestinian Embassy around 11:45pm. Constable Monirul Islam was shot to death by his colleague Kawsar Ali. Japan Embassy’s car driver Sazzad Hossain also suffered bullet wounds at that time. He is receiving treatment at United Hospital in Gulshan.   

The police chief also said constable Kawsar was taken to the police station and disarmed. He is being interrogated over the matter. The body of the deceased constable was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police recovered 20 rounds of bullets and bullet casings from the spot.
