The Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) on Monday placed a Tk11,95,486 crore alternative budget for the fiscal year of 2024-25.
The proposed budget of the BEA is 1.57 times higher than the original national budget size of the current fiscal year.
BEA General Secretary Dr Md Aynul Islam placed the budget proposal at a press conference held at its office in the capital’s Eskaton.
In his presentation, he showed 27 new ways to increase revenue.
Dr Aynul said, the main aim of their budget is to include 70 to 80 per cent of country’s people into sustainable middle class over the next 10 years.
The association estimated the budget deficit of Tk1,70,719 crore. It set a revenue collection target of Tk10,24,112 crore.
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali is likely to propose a draft budget for fiscal year 2024-25 in parliament on Thursday.
