BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has questioned how former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed left the country despite the allegations of corruption.
Alleging that the Awami League government created numerous Aziz (former Army chief) and Benazir and built an empire of looting, he vowed, "A government of people will be established defeating the current government through struggle."
He said this while speaking as the chief guest in a discussion at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday.
Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad, a platform of pro-BNP professionals, arranged the program to mark the 43rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Mentioning that Bangladesh had to struggle for 25 years to get independence, Fakhrul said, "We struggled for 15 years. There is no reason to think we lost."
Acknowledging that the BNP did not get success in the anti-government movement, he vowed, "The fight will continue until victory comes."
He urged pro-BNP intellectuals and professionals to come forward in the party's movement against the 'fascist' government and for the restoration of democracy.
Former IGP Benazir Ahmed along with his wife and three daughters went to Singapore on May 4. It was learned that he went to the country for his wife's treatment there.
