The third phase of the sixth upazila parishad elections is underway in 87 upazilas across the country.
The voting began at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any break.
A total of 1,152 candidates are competing in this phase. Among them, 397 are vying for the post of chairman, 456 for vice chairman and 299 for the post of female vice chairman.
In the third phase, a total of 40,861 members of Ansar-VDP have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order and ensure security of the polling centres and ballot boxes.
Besides, a total of 300 platoons of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) have also been deployed across the country to conduct the upazila elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
The Election Commission said the elections in 112 upazilas were schedule to be held in the third phase. Of them, elections in 25 upazilas were postponed due to case related issues and cyclone Remal’s impact.
