The Election Commission (EC) has decided to postpone the elections in nineteen upazilas due to cyclone Remal, which made landfall on Bangladesh coast on Sunday.
The EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam said this in a press conference on Monday.
The upazilas are Sarankhola, Morelganj, Mongla of Bagerhat; Koyra, Dumuria, Paikgachha of Khulna; Gournadi, Agailjhara of Barishal; Sadar, Dumki, Mirzaganj of Patuakhali; Mothbaria of Pirojpur; Tazumuddin, Lalmohon of Bhola; Rajapur, Kathalia of Jhalakathi; Bamna, Pathargatha of Borguna and Bagaichhari of Rangamati.
The elections to the 19 upazilas were scheduled to be held on May 29.
The EC announced the election schedule for 109 upazilas in the third phase. Now, the elections will be held in 90 upazilas as the EC postponed the polling in 19 upazilas.
