Around 20 villages in Rangabali upazila of coastal district Patuakhali were flooded on Sunday after two embankments broke due to tidal surges under cyclonic storm Remal's influence.
Water entered about 10 villages under Charmontaz union through a dam in Nayarchar area and Chalitabunia union's several villages were submerged after water entered through an embankment.
According to the Water Development Board, Patuakhali, around 14 kilometers area out of 1300 kilometer embankments in the district are at risk.
Rangabali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman said most of the places of 7, 8, and 9 no wards of Charmontaz union were inundated and they were making arrangements to take the marooned people to cyclone centers.
The cyclonic storm Remal may cross the Bangladesh coasts from 6 pm today, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.
It asked the maritime ports of Payra and Mongla to keep hoisted great danger signal no 10 and Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram great danger signal number 9.
