3 detained over murder of MP Anar: Home Minister

Ruling Awami League lawmaker from Jhenaidah-1 constituency, Anwarul Azim Anar, who went missing in India, has been murdered in a planned way.  Three people have been detained over the murder.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the reporters at his residence on Wednesday noon. 

He said the Indian police on Wednesday morning informed us that MP Anwarul Azim has been murdered. Bangladesh police detained three culprits as per the information given the Indian police. The investigation is underway and the detainees are being interrogated.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of parliament for the Jhenaidah-4 constituency and President of Kaliganj Upazila unit of Awami League.

“We will soon inform you about the motive,” the minister said, adding that Indian police are cooperating with the case.

Earlier, Kolkata police recovered the body of Anar from New Town area in Kolkata.

He went missing a day after going to India for medical treatment on 12 May, according to his family members.
