Jhenaidah-4 MP found dead in Kolkata

Kolkata police have recovered the body of Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of parliament for the Jhenaidah-4 constituency and President of Kaliganj Upazila unit of Awami League.

His body was recovered from New Town area in Kolkata on Wednesday. Police have already started investigation into the incident, reports Kolkata24x7, an Indian online news portal.

Azim went missing a day after going to India for medical treatment on 12 May, according to his family members.

His personal assistant Abdur Rauf told Jago News that many people are saying the news of death but still we cannot say anything for sure.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told Jago News that he heard the news of death of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim, but didn’t confirm it.

Source said Azim stayed at the house of a man named Gopal Bishwas at Baranagar thana in Uttar 24 Parganas of West Bengal. The next day, he left Gopal’s home to visit a doctor. He was supposed to return to the house by evening. But he didn’t return.

Later, a text was sent to Gopal from Anwarul’s WhatsApp saying he went to Delhi. If necessary, he would call Gopal and no need to call him. Since then, Gopal could not contact with him.

On May 18, Gopal filed a general diary (GD) with the Baranagar Police Station over this.
