The second phase of the sixth upazila parishad election is underway in 156 upazilas across the country.
Seventeen percent votes have been cast at 10,000 polling centres out of total 13,155 till 12pm, four hours after voting started, said the Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam.
The EC Secretary said this in a press conference held at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday.
Earlier around 10:45am, EC Additional Secretary said no untoward incidents have occurred yet, but an Ansar member died of heart attack in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.
Acording to the EC, a total of 1,824 candidates are competing in the second phase. Among them, 603 are vying for the post of chairman, 693 for vice chairman and 598 for the post of female vice chairman.
