A court in Dhaka has sent Sohel Siraj, the owner of 'Kacchi Bhai' restaurant, to jail in a case filed over the deadly fire in Dhaka's Bailey Road area that left 46 people dead.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid passed the order on Friday after police produced him before the court following a two-day remand ended, and sought to confine him in jail.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Immigration Police detained him after landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and handed him over to the Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Later, he was shown arrested in the lawsuit.
On the following day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque placed him on a two-day remand after police prayed a five-day remand against him for fair investigation.
Earlier on February 29, a deadly fire broke out in a building named Green Cozy Cottage building in Bailey Road area, leaving 46 people dead.
The eight-storey building had a restaurant called 'Kacchi Bhai' on the second floor and many other food shops on other floors.
Police had filed a case over the fire incident on allegation of deaths due to negligence.
