Pilot killed as Air Force training aircraft crashes into Karnaphuli

A pilot was killed and co-pilot suffered injuries after a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the Karnaphuli river at Patenga Container Terminal in Chattogram on Thursday morning.  

The deceased was identified as Asim Jawad.

The injured co-pilot is Wing Commander Sohan.  

Asim died while undergoing treatment at BNS Issa Khan Hospital at Patenga around 12:30pm, said Chattogram Deputy Police Commissioner Shakila Sultana.   

The injured co-pilot Sohan is receiving treatment at the hospital.

She said they managed to eject from the plane through parachutes. They were rescued and admitted to the hospital where Asim died. 

Earlier, the YAK-130 fighter aircraft caught fire in the air due to a technical glitch and crashed into the river around 10:30am.
