The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the accused in a case filed over the sensational murder of nine-year-old Tafrin Sultana Jhumur after rape in Cumilla.
Arrested Mafizul Islam alias Mafu is a resident of Khilpara village in Sadar Dakshin upazila of the district.
He was apprehended from Ferua Bazar area in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur on Tuesday night, Tanvir Mahmud Pasha, commanding officer of RAB-11, Narayanganj told Jago News on Wednesday afternoon.
RAB said Mafizul in primary interrogation admitted that he took Jhumur, daughter of expatriate Zakir Hossain and resident of Khilpara village, to a paddy field and raped her when she was returning home from school. Later, he strangulated her to death when she tried to cry out.
Earlier on Monday, Jhumur, a student of Class III at Sonali Bidyaniketan Kindergarten, was murdered after rape in a paddy field.
Being informed by locals, police, later, recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue.
The victim's mother Razia Begum lodged a case with Sadar Dakshin Police Station in this connection.
