A young man was shot to death and several others were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League (AL) in the Sadar upazila of Munshiganj over establishing supremacy early Saturday.
The incident took place at Choto Mollakandi village in Charkewar union around 4am.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Kha, 20, son of Polash Kha.
A man named Rabbi Kha, 29, who received bullet injuries, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the rest of the injured took treatment locally.
Locals and police said that there had been a dispute between two local Awami League leaders - Mamun and Ahmed. The supporters of them locked in a clash and opened fire on each other. At that time, several people were injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. Two of the injured were taken to the DMCH where the doctors on duty declared Parvez dead.
Aminul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said the incident took place over establishing supremacy in the area. Additional police have been deployed there to control untoward situation.
