Five people were killed and some others injured as a passenger launch hit another vessel at Sadarghat area in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The injured were admitted to the Mitford Hospital. They are in critical conditions, said the doctors of the hospital.
Joynal Abedin, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka River Port (Sadarghat Traffic Zone), said the launch MV Farhan-6 hit the MV Tashrif-4 while the passengers were getting on it. At that time, five people died on the spot and some other people were also injured. The injured were admitted to the hospital.
A committee will be formed to investigate the incident, he added.
Confirming the matter to Jago News, Fire Service’s Media Cell Inspector Anwarul Islam said one woman, three men and a child are among the dead.
