6 KNF members among 8 held in Bandarban; jeep, arms seized

Eight people including six members of the armed group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) have been detained in separate drives by the joint forces. 

A jeep car used for robbery in Krishi Bank in Thanchi, arms and bullets have also been seized.  

They were detained in the drives conducted from Sunday night to Monday noon. 

Ruma army zone commander Lt. Col. KM Arafat Amin said a total of eight people have been detained so far. Seven home-made firearms, 20-round bullets, KNF uniforms, a laptop, a pair of boots, a knife and different equipment have been recovered from their possession. 

According to the law enforcement agency, eight cases have been filed over the bank robbery and the abduction of a bank official in the district. The joint forces’ operation is going on to capture the culprits in Ruma, Thanchi, Rowangchhari and Alikadam areas.

Bandarban Police Superintendent Saikat Shahin said the joint forces detained six people from Ruma and another from Thanchi.

Earlier, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a KNF leader Cheosim Bom from Sharonpara in the outskirts of Bandarban.
