The joint forces have started a combing operation in Bandarban to curb the separatists following several terrorist attacks in Thanchi and Ruma.
Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed told it to the reporters at army region ground in Bandarban on Sunday. The top army officials were present during this time.
The army chief said the combing operation has already begun. Different forces are jointly conducting the operation.
“In the strict order of Prime Minister, a combing operation has begun against the armed group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) from Saturday night. Two arms have been recovered from their possession. The joint forces’ drive will continue until the situation becomes normal.
Earlier, the army chief visited Ruma and Thanci upazilas by helicopter around 10am.
On April 2, the members of the armed group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) attacked the Ruma Upazila Parishad office, tried to rob Sonali Bank's Ruma Branch in Bandarban, and abducted its manager Nezam Uddin. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued Nezam Uddin on April 4.
A total of six cases were filed with Ruma and Thanchi Police Stations over the incidents.
