A private jute mill in Rupsha upazila of Khulna caught fire on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out at the jute warehouse of Salam Jute Mill in Jabusa area around 5:30 pm, said Fire Service assistant director Faruk Hossain Sikder.
Being informed, 11 units of the firefighters went to the spot and were trying to douse the blaze.
Locals said the fire first originated at 3 no. warehouse and then, it engulfed two other warehouses. At that time, the laborers working there managed to come out.
Bashir Ahmed, manager of Salam Jute Mill, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit due to a technical glitch in a machine at 3 no. godown and within a short time, it engulfed adjacent 1 and 2 no. warehouses.
MMA Salam, proprietor of the mill, the fire damaged around Tk 1 crore goods.
The fire could, however, not be put out when the report was filed.
