Two persons died and seven others suffered burn injuries as four vehicles were burnt in a fire that broke out first at an oil tanker in aftermath of its overturning on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Savar on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Iqbal and Md Nazrul.
Iqbal died on the spot and Nazrul succumbed to his burn injuries after being taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) in Dhaka.
The injured are Mim, 10, Md Al Amin, 35, Niranjan, 45, Milon Molla, 22, Md Sakib, 24, Md Helal, 30, Md Nazrul Islam, 45 and Abdus Salam, 35.
Ali Hasan, who took the injured to the burn unit, said the oil tanker fire quickly spread on the road and burnt at least four more vehicles -- a private car, a cement-laden truck, a watermelon carrying truck and a lorry -- to ashes.
Dr Tariqul Islam, Resident Physician of the SHNIBPS, said eight people were brought to the hospital in connection with the fire. One of them, named Nazrul, was declared dead and seven others were undergoing treatment at the burn unit.
