Two beaten dead on suspicion of theft in Gazipur

Two people were beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur early Friday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Locals claimed a group of people entered Namila, and Boribari villages under Singhasree union early today to steal cows, and sensing their presence, the locals gave two of them a good thrashing, leaving them dead.

Singhasree union parishad chairman Anwar Parvez said cow theft widely increased in the locality and that is why, people set up a guard in the locality at night to prevent theft.

In the early hours, a group of people entered the two villages to thieve cows and the villagers beat up two to death, he said.

Kapasia Police Station officer in-charge Abu Bakr Mia said the bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

In this regard, legal measures are under process, he added.
