Clash with police: 453 BNP men including Khasru indicted

A court in Chattogram has indicted 453 BNP leaders and activists, including its Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, in a case filed over the clash with police in the city around nine years ago.

Chattogram Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shamsul Arefin framed charges against them on Wednesday, said Amir Khasru's lawyer advocate Mufizul Haque Bhuiyan.

He said they prayed for acquittal of the accused in the hearing but the court rejected the plea and indicted them.

It was learned that four-party alliance leaders and activists clashed with police during a rally of the ruling Awami League at Kazir Dewri in Chattogram city on January 5, 2015, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the January 5, 2014, general election.

Later, police conducted drives in different places in the city, and arrested 302.

And the law enforcers lodged a case with Kotwali Police Station in this connection under the Explosive Substances Act.

About this, the city BNP's former office secretary Idris Ali said the government is using court to confine BNP men behind the bar as it did the same work before the national election held on January 7, 2024.
