Wife, 3 others get death for husband's murder

A court in Cumilla has sentenced a woman and three others to death for the murder of her husband in Homna upazila.

The condemned convicts are Shahnaz Begum, 35, wife of the dead, Md Kuddus, 32, Md Razib, 26, residents of Kararkandi area, and Abdul Khalek, 28, of Mangalkandi village in the upazila.

Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Jahangir Hossain handed down the verdict on Wednesday, the court's Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Abu Yusuf told Jago News.

They were also fined Tk 50,000 each, he said.

However, another accused, Shahjahan, was acquitted after his involvement in the killing was not found.

The case statement said Shahnaz Begum, the wife of Saudi expatriate Abdul Jalil, 45, had an extra-marital affair with tube well businessman Md Shahjahan, a resident of Goari Bhanga village in Homna upazila.

On June 9, 2013, she asked Jalil to come to Dhaka for treatment. Later, she hired Kuddus, Khalek, and Razib who killed him on the way home from Dhaka.

Subsequently, his brother Tajul Islam filed a case with Homna Police Station in this connection.
