Govt won't stay happy if Jatiya Party is destroyed: GM Quader

GM Quader, the chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party (JaPa), has said no ideological political party will last in the process in which the country's politics is going.

He made the remark at a discussion held JaPa chairman's office at Banani in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon on the occasion of Independence Day.

Alleging that the government is trying to create a division in the Jatiya Party, GM Quader said, "If the Jatiya Party is destroyed, the government will not stay happy, too. A doubt has arisen about whether any political party except puppet will exist in the days coming."

Saying that if the country's all power belonged to the people, they would elect public representatives, he questioned, "Have the countrymen voting right?"

"We wanted a deprivation-free society where everyone will be accountable. Why commodity prices do not decrease? Why (authorities) cannot stop fires broken out every day? Why (authorities) cannot stop adulteration? Because there is no accountability," he said.

Commenting that now one cannot speak out against the government, GM Quader said, "Laws are made. Cases are filed if anyone criticizes the government as per law. The government made arrangements to repress us legally."

The JaPa-partial chief also said, "Desired society has not built with the spirit of Liberation War and we are not going that way rather we walk in the opposite direction. People must be given the right to choose a leader and there must be accountability to rule the country."
