ICT Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Arieff Tipoo dies

International Crimes Tribunal's (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Arieff Tipoo died in a private hospital in the capital Dhaka on Friday morning.

He breathed his last around 8 am while undergoing treatment at Labaid Specialized Hospital, ICT Prosecutor Advocate Md Mukhlesur Rahman Badal told Jago News.

Ghulam Arieff Tipoo was appointed the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal formed for conducting trials of those involved in the crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

Tipoo was born on August 28, 1931, in Kamalakantpur village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. His father Aftab Uddin Ahmed was a district registrar.

He obtained an honors degree in Law from Rajshahi College and completed his master's from Dhaka University.

He received the Ekushey Padak in 2019 for his contribution to the Language Movement in 1952.
