Gazipur cylinder blast: 32 burn victims not out of danger

Thirty-two people, who were injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur’s Kaliakair, are not out of danger. Sixteen of them sustained 80 percent burn injuries and are undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen said this at a press conference at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) at 11:15am on Thursday.

He said a total of 32 burn victims have come here so far. Of them, 16 sustained 80 percent burn injuries and 10 others received 90 burn injuries. The respiratory systems of all of them have been burnt. 

Earlier on Wednesday evening, at least 35 people, including women and children, were injured in a gas cylinder explosion at Telirchala area Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur.

Locals said a cooking gas cylinder started leaking at a house of one Shafik Khan in the area. Later, he brought the cylinder to the main door and threw it out on the road, leading to the explosion.
