Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday urged all to refrain from arranging iftar party during Ramadan and distribute the saved money of the party to the distressed people.
She made the call in an unscheduled discussion in the cabinet meeting at her office. The premier chaired the meeting.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain briefed reporters on the meeting at the Secretariat.
Earlier, the prime minister gave an order not to hold iftar party on a large scale at the government initiative.
In the meeting, she also gave directives to construct modern storage facilities for agricultural products in eight divisions, said the cabinet secretary.
The premier asked the Agriculture Ministry and Rural Development and Cooperative Department to take initiative to build agriculture-based cooperative as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said.
Mahbub Hossain said these directives have been taken as the decision of the cabinet, concerned ministries will be informed to this end.
He said the prime minister took information about the concerned ministries about the measures taken for the Ramadan.
Three ministries informed the meeting about the initiatives taken for the Ramadan, he said.
Fisheries and Livestock Ministry took some initiatives including selling of fish and meat.
The Commerce Ministry apprised of the marketing monitoring programme carried out across the country, he said.
