Conduct raids at hotels, restaurants as per law: HC

The High Court on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned of the government to conduct raids at hotels and restaurants as per the law.

The court also issued a rule asking why harassment in the name of raid would not be declared illegal.

A double bench of the High Court issued the rule after a primary hearing of a writ petition filed in this regard.

Earlier on Monday, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking an end to harassment in the name of drives at hotels and restaurants in the capital.

In the writ petition, the owners of hotels and restaurants sought time to fulfill all the conditions.

On February 29, a total of 46 people were killed in a fire at Green Cozy Cottage in Dhaka’s Bailey Road.

Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) started drives at different restaurants in Dhaka. Due to the lack of fire safety measures in establishments, the DMP arrested 872 people during the drives and filed 20 cases so far. A total of 887 arrestees were produced in the court following the drives so far.
