A court in Rajshahi has awarded a young man life-term imprisonment for raping a child.
The lifer is Nadim Islam, a resident of Deluabari village in Durgapur upazila.
The district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Md Hasanuzzaman pronounced the verdict on Sunday.
The court also fined him Tk 20,000; in default, he will have to serve another month in prison.
The tribunal's public prosecutor advocate Shamsunnahar Mukti said two people, including Nadim, violated a seven-year-old girl in Deluabari village on September 25, 2022, when she was alone at home. Hearing the victim's cry, neighbors caught Nadim and handed him over to the police.
Later, the father of the victim filed a case in this connection.
