Five lawyers remanded over SCBA vote counting violence

A court in Dhaka on Saturday placed five lawyers on a three-day remand in a case filed over the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election violence on Friday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order after Abul Kalam Azad, investigation officer and inspector of the Detective Branch of Police, produced them before the court seeking a 5-day remand.

The arrestees are Advocate Kazi Bashir Ahmed, Advocate Tushar, Advocate Tariqul, Advocate Anamul Haque Sumon, and Barrister Usman Chowdhury.

In the case, 20 people, including advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi, an independent candidate for the post of secretary in the Supreme Court Bar election, and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, secretary candidate of BNP-Jamaat supported blue panel, have been accused.

On Friday night, Assistant Attorney General Saifur Rahman Chowdhury Saif filed the case on charges of attempted murder.
