Man gets death for killing wife in Bagerhat

A court in Bagerhat on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife.

The condemned convict is Basudeb alias Bappy Karmaker, a resident of Gazalia village in Kachua upazila. 

The district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge SM Saiful Islam delivered the verdict.

The court also fined him Tk 50,000, defence lawyer Siddiqur Rahman confirmed. 

However, four accused were acquitted from charges.

The case statement said Basudeb tortured his wife Setu Rani on August 6, 2006, for Tk 8 lakh dowry, leaving her injured.

Later, she was taken to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

The victim's father lodged a case in this connection.
