A child died after he was administered full anesthesia during a circumcision procedure at JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Centre in the capital’s Malibagh on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Ahnaf Tahmin Ayham, 10, a student of class four of Motijheel Ideal School and College.
Police arrested two doctors, SM Muktadir and Mahbub, of the diagnostic centre following the death.
Md Awlad Hussain, Officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Wednesday morning.
He said they arrested the two doctors after Ahnaf’s father Fakhrul Alam filed a case mentioning the names of three doctors and five other unnamed people.
The OC also said the diagnostic centre has been closed down. The arrestees are being interrogated.
It was learnt that Ahnaf’s father Fakhrul Alam and mother Khaykun Nahar Chumki took him to the diagnostic centre for circumcision at 8pm on Tuesday. But he never regained consciousness after a doctor gave him full anesthesia. An hour later, the hospital authorities declared him dead.
Ahnaf’s father said we requested the doctors not to give him full anesthesia. Dr Muktadir pushed it into my child’s body. They killed my son. I want stern action against them.
Jago News could not reach hospital authorities for comment.
Earlier on January 8, a child named Ayaan died following a circumcision procedure conducted at United Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Badda.
