Durdanto Dhaka ended its Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) campaign with 11th straight defeat after a 10-run loss to Chattogram Challengers at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.
Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim led the charge with 51 ball-70 as Chattogram compiled 159-6 after electing to bat first. Dhaka batters showed yet another dismal performance to be restricted to 149-5 to concede the defeat in their last match too, reports BSS.
Dhaka upset defending champions Comilla Victorians by five wickets in their first match and that remained their only victory in the tournament.
Chattogram meanwhile hit back to winning way after three defeats in a row. The win however helped the move to fourth spot and kept their playoffs hopes alive.
Chattoram made a horrendous start and were slumped to 24-2 after which Tanzid and Tom Bruce shared 95-run for the third wicket stand to steady the innings.
Sean Williams broke through with the wicket of Bruce who made 48 off 35 with three fours and two sixes. No other batters then could come up with any support for Tanzid who indeed single-handed drove the side past 150-run mark. Tanzid smote one four and six sixes in his knock.
Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed snared two wickets for Dhaka.
Alex Ross kept Dhaka going after a disastrous start that saw them losing first two wickets for nine runs in three overs. Ross and Naim Sheikh shared 51 runs for the third wicket stand but Naim who played 35 balls for his 29, significantly slowed down the progress, which made an adverse impact later.
After Naim's departure, Ross kept the side alive but when Salahuddin Shakil got the better of him, Dhaka's hope to end with a victory effectively ruined. Ross blasted four fours and three sixes for his 55 off 44.
Captain Mosaddek Hossain Saikat scored 18 ball-29 not out while Irfan Shukkur an unbeaten 14 off 8 but that was not enough to save the side from the ignominy.
