Peruvian national gets life term imprisonment in narcotics case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced Peruvian national Jagaseta Alvarado Juana to life term imprisonment and Pakistani national Mostofa Ashraf to 10 years in jail in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-3 passed the order.  

The court also acquitted four other accused - Md Mostofa, Shamsul Haque, Halima Khanam Sadia and Sabrina Nasrin Tania - as the charges brought against them were not proved.

State lawyer Mohammad Salauddin Hawlader confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

According to the case statement, on information, the officials of the department of narcotics control went to the Western La Vinci Hotel and searched the accused on June 11, 2013. At that time, they found three kg of cocaine from a travel bag of Juana.   

Mofazzol Hossain, Inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control, filed a case over the incident. 

The Narcotics Control Inspector Obaidul Karim submitted a charge sheet to the court against the accused on September 17, 2013. 

The court framed the charges against them on June 18, 2015.
